Notes:
India gained its independence from Britain in 1947. It is the second most populated country in the world and has the world’s largest democracy.

India still operates according to the caste system. There are an estimated 6,400 castes; each caste functions as a separate group due to social barriers.

India’s constitution provides for full religious freedom. However, demands and concessions for anti-conversion legislation and restriction on Christian activities are increasing. In some states where this type of legislation has been granted, there has been a dramatic increase in violence toward and murder of Christian workers.

At least 600 million people in India live in extreme poverty.

Prayer:
Pray for governmental leadership – that they would maintain religious freedom and resist the pressure to pass an “anti-conversion” law.

Pray for increased training for Christian leaders, that they would be better equipped for their work.

Pray for the Church in India…
…that the Holy Spirit would bring new life.
…that there would be unity among individuals and churches.
…for increased effectiveness in outreach and discipleship.
…that there would be greater indigeneity in things such as music, architecture, worship, and culture. Many churches appear Western or foreign, which may create an aversion among the people.
