Notes:
Sierra Leone was originally founded in 1797 as a home for freed slaves. It was liberated from Britain in 1961. The government is still rebuilding after a civil war that ended in 2002 after tens of thousands of deaths and two million refugees.
Sierra Leone has a great income distribution inequality.
68% of individuals live below the poverty line.
During the 20th century in Sierra Leone, the Muslim religion grew from 10% to 80% of the population.
Great problems exist concerning domestic fighting among rebels, warlords, and youth gangs. In the regions where rebels are active, 100,000 people have been slain and 70% of women have been raped. Amputation and rape have been used as weapons of terror and control.
Prayer:
Pray that the cruel and violent acts against innocent victims would come to an end. Pray for emotional, physical, and spiritual healing for the victims.
Church growth appears to be at a standstill – pray for revival.
The occult is showing a great deal of power and presence, even within the church where many Christian and church leaders are compromised through occult activity. Pray that the church would be freed from the influence of the occult and that they would walk in their freedom in Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.
70% of all pastors have had no formal theological training. Pray for an increase in the number of Christian leaders. In addition, pray for an increase in training for these leaders that they would be better equipped for the work of the ministry.
