| Notes Burkina Faso gained its independence from France in 1960 Burkina Faso is the 3rd poorest country in the world according to the UN. Over 77 ethnic groups exist in Burkina Faso. More than almost any other country in West Africa, Burkina Faso is overwhelmed by idolatry, fetishism, and secret societies. The total number of evangelical Christians doubled during the 1990s but has recently slowed. Prayer Pray for more missionaries to be sent to this country. Approximately 24 people groups in Burkina Faso currently lack an effective witness of the Gospel. As in many African nations, practices of the occult have infiltrated the church. Pray that the power and the presence of the occult would be broken and that Christians would walk in the freedom and power of Christ. Pray for greater unity and cooperation among churches in Burkina Faso. Pray that a spirit of denominationalism in the church would be broken.
